Police: Street fight after teen thought he would be shot

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police say a teen is in custody after threatening another teen with a gun, leading to a street fight.

A 17-year-old Madison male tells officials he was walking on the 300 block of Clyde Gallagher Ave. late Saturday morning when a car pulled up and the front seat passenger got out and pointed a handgun at him.

Police say the suspect made a statement that led the teen believe he was about to be shot. The victim ducked when the suspect swung the pistol in an attempt to hit him, put the suspect in a bear hug and threw him to the ground.

The victim grabbed the gun with one hand and began to punch the suspect with the other. At that point, the driver of the vehicle got out and began fighting with a relative of the victim's, a 16-year-old Madison male.

According to the incident report, the driver fled at some point and a friend of the victim arrived and joined the fight to control the gunman. The victim and the friend were able to disarm the suspect and hold him until police arrived.

Authorities say they arrested 19-year-old DQuann R. Jones on suspicion of first-degree reckless endangering safety, disorderly conduct while armed and abuse to a child.

The victim told police the incident likely stemmed from an earlier fight between the victim and a friend of Jones.
