"Ashes to Go" event takes tradition to the streets

MADISON (WKOW) -- Today is Ash Wednesday, marking the first day of Lent in the Catholic Church, and a church in Madison is taking the tradition to the streets in what they call, "Ashes to Go."

Monona United Methodist Church says this is a new approach to the centuries-old tradition. They'll have church representatives out at three locations on Wednesday.

They will be at: Monona United Methodist Church on Nicols Road, La Hispana Grocery Store on East Washington and La Zacatecana on Commercial Drive.

They will be offering ashes to people who may have lost their connection to a certain church, never participated before or can't get to a service on Wednesday.
