PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA (WKOW) -- Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp.
She was shot inside the Olympic athlete's home in South Africa.
Police say the 26-year-old suspect will appear in court on Thursday. Police say they do not name suspects in crimes until they have appeared in court, but a police spokesman says Pistorius was at his home after the death of Steenkamp and says "there is no other suspect involved."
Pistorius was taken into custody early Thursday morning.
PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA (WKOW) -- Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius has been arrested after a woman was killed at his home in South Africa.
Police say Pistorius was taken into custody after the shooting early Thursday morning. Pistorius is known as "Blade Runner" and made history at the London Olympics last year when he became the first double-amputee runner to compete in the Games. He's one of South Africa's most famous athletes.
Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale told The Associated Press the woman died at the scene and officers found a 9-mm pistol nearby. Mogale says Pistorius was expected to appear in court later Thursday.
Some South African media outlets are reporting the woman was Pistorius' girlfriend and he may have mistaken her for a burglar and shot her, but police did not confirm the woman's relationship to Pistorius.
