UPDATE: Monday morning crash turns fatal


TOWN OF RUTLAND (WKOW) -- Dane County sheriff's say a crash on Highway 14 in the town of Rutland has turned fatal.

Shortly after 7:00 Monday morning, a 32-year-old Brooklyn woman was traveling southbound on Highway 14 near West Rutland Road when she entered the shoulder, then over-corrected, crossing the center line and striking an oncoming vehicle.

The other vehicle was operated by a 42-year-old woman from Evansville.  She was wearing her seatbelt, but needed extrication.

Both women were transported by ambulance to UW Hospital, however, the Brooklyn woman was pronounced dead upon arrival.  The other woman was admitted with serious injuries.

Highway 14 between CTH A and Highway 92 is currently closed and is expected to re-open at approximately 11:00 am.

Assisting Dane County Sheriff's were Madison Paramedics, UW Med Flight and Fire and EMS from Oregon and Brooklyn.


TOWN OF RUTLAND (WKOW) -- At least two people are hurt after a multiple vehicle accident on Highway 14 Monday morning.

Dane County Communications says one person was taken by MedFlight to UW Hospital. The other is still at the scene as of 7:50 a.m., but will be taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Highway 14 is closed in both directions near the crash site. A WKOW photojournalist was stopped by deputies at County Highway A, north of Rutland. Dane County says traffic is being diverted onto County Road MM. The accident site is near Rutland Road.


TOWN OF RUTLAND (WKOW) -- Emergency crews respond to a multiple vehicle accident on Highway 14 near Rutland Road Monday morning.

Dane County Communications confirms at least one vehicle rolled over and at least one person is pinned in the vehicle. Dispatchers say they were told a Pontiac Sunfire is split in half.

MedFlight, Brooklyn and Oregon rescue teams are in route to the scene.
