UPDATE: Arrests after disturbance that led to Beloit College lockdown

BELOIT (WKOW) -- Three people were arrested after a disturbance that led to the lockdown of Beloit College.

Beloit Police Department Captain Vincent Sciame says officers first responded to the disturbance on the 1800 block of Park Ave. around 12:30 p.m. Thursday. While in route, officers learned the suspect had threatened the caller with a handgun and fled the scene. Police later saw the suspect's vehicle pull into a parking garage of an apartment building in the 900 block of Park Ave., which is near the Beloit College campus.

Officers say they secured the building and began negotiations with the suspect.

Officials at Beloit College were notified of the situation and they placed the college into lockdown. The lockdown was lifted once the suspect was arrested.

"It was a good safety measure for them to go into lockdown, and whether they were actually in danger, probably not, but better to be safe than sorry," Sciame told WKOW.

Shortly after 3 p.m., the suspect and a female acquaintance voluntarily left the apartment and were taken into custody without incident. Sciame says officers searched the apartment and found another woman hiding inside. She was also arrested.

During the search, officers found drugs and paraphernalia, but no gun.

Police arrested 51-year-old Jose Rodriquez of Beloit for disorderly conduct while armed and resisting arrest. Officers also took 20-year-old Diamond Hodges and 44-year-old Dawn Ford into custody.

Investigators say Hodges had three arrest warrants for traffic offenses. Ford had a warrant from the Department of Corrections.

Police say additional charges are possible pending the investigation of the possession of the illegal narcotics.

BELOIT (WKOW) -- Beloit College has announced its campus-wide lockdown is over and that students can now go about their regular activities.

Earlier Thursday afternoon, police asked people to stay clear of the 900 block of Park Avenue, near campus, due to a police situation at a home involving a possibly armed suspect.

MADISON (WKOW) --  Jason Hughes, Beloit College PR Officer, has told 27 News they received a call from Beloit police informing them of a situation.

Police told the college a suspect, who is believed to be armed, was within a few blocks of campus.

Beloit College's security team felt the nature of the incident was significant to warrant a lockdown.  The campus remains locked down and will remain that way until Beloit police give the all clear.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Beloit College has issued a lockdown on its campus, asking students to stay where they are on campus.

A message posted at the top of the college's web site home page says Beloit Police are responding to a situation within a few blocks of campus involving a suspect that is believed to be armed.

Beloit College says the situation is on Park Avenue near the northeast corner of campus.

The Beloit Daily News is reporting police are at 920 Park Ave. where police believe a man with a gun threatened someone.
