WAUPUN (WKOW) -- Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections placed Waupun Correctional Institution on lockdown Monday.
Warden Bill Pollard states the lockdown was placed to conduct a planned routine search of the facility.
"We have been planning this search for several months," Pollard stated. Institution lockdowns occur periodically at prison facilities statewide to search for contraband, including cell phones, tobacco, illegal drugs, or weapons.
Pollard also says, "Searches are part of our mission to protect the public, staff and inmates."
All activities, including visits, will be canceled for a minimum of one week. When the inspections are complete, the facility will gradually return to normal procedures.
