MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison psychiatrist charged with two counts of possessing child pornography has given up his medical license.
Attorneys representing Dr. David Israelstam say he formally surrendered his license to practice in a letter mailed to state officials on Thursday.
In the system his license still remains active, but attorneys say that's only because the letter hasn't been received and authorized by state officials.
Israelstam was released on signature bond after being charged yesterday with two felonies in Dane County court.
According to the criminal complaint, a former patient and computer technician of Israelstam first found images of child pornography and discretely filmed sexual videos in September of 2011.
The investigation lasted several months. Police say both the Department of Criminal Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration were involved in the case.
The report was then submitted to the Dane County District Attorney's office in April, 2012.
