UW athletes read Dr. Seuss books to area students

MADISON, WI (WKOW) -- Some University of Wisconsin athletes took time out Friday to celebrate Read Across America Day by reading Dr. Seuss books to area elementary school students.

Read Across America Day coincides with Dr. Seuss' birthday, which is Saturday, March 2.

Park Elementary School students got a big surprise when several Wisconsin Badgers football players were introduced at a school-wide assembly to read "The Cat in the Hat Comes Back."

"I've always had an appreciation for these books, and to be able to pass on the same love to the next generation is important to me," said Senior Defensive Lineman David Gilbert.

"To get out in the community and to be able to put a smile on someone's face, it's awesome," said sophomore Offensive Lineman Ray Ball.

The players signed autographs and took pictures with the students after the assembly.
