MADISON (WKOW) -- State emergency officials are asking everyone to "be a force of nature" and prepare for severe weather threats in our area. It's all a part of National Severe Weather Preparedness Week.
According to Wisconsin Emergency Management, the nationwide effort is to increase awareness of severe weather and to motivate individuals, families, businesses, and communities to take actions that will prepare them in the event of severe weather.
Emergency Management says to "know Your risk". Officials there say the first step to becoming weather-ready is to understand the type of hazardous weather that can affect where you live and work, and how the weather could impact you and your family.
Wisconsin experiences snow storms, tornadoes, flooding and other severe weather, so everyone is exposed to some degree of risk. Officials say to check the weather forecast regularly. You can do that by watching 27 News, or by checking out WKOW's
Storm Track forecast online, all the time.
You can also learn more about how to be better prepared and how you can protect your family during emergencies by checking out
Ready Wisconsin's website.
Ready Wisconsin suggests you have an emergency kit in your car. It should include a shovel, windshield scraper, flashlight, radio, water, snacks, matches, socks, mittens, first aid kit, blankets, jumper cable and emergency flares.
Tod Pritchard, with Wisconsin Emergency Management, joins us on 27 News at 5 on Tuesday to talk about National Severe Weather Preparedness Week.
