Pocan addresses sequester cuts in Madison

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- When it comes to the federal budget, Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wisconsin) is calling for a balanced approach to protect Medicare and Social Security.

He spoke at the Madison Senior Center on Monday, addressing how the sequester cuts, as well as the upcoming budget proposals could affect seniors.

In just two days, Pocan and the House Budget Committee will vote on Congressman Paul Ryan's (R-Wisconsin) proposal. Pocan says he will work with Ryan, but they need to keep Medicare and Social Security as high priorities.

"Let's find cuts as well as revenues, provide a balanced approach that doesn't gut or hurt any programs in a way that will make it very hard for people who need those programs the most to be able to get by," Pocan says.

Last month, Pocan and more than 100 of his Democratic colleagues wrote a letter to President Obama, urging him to reject any proposals that cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
