COLUMBIA COUNTY (WKOW) -- A deputy with the Columbia County Sheriff's Department is recovering after a driver crashed into his patrol car.
The Sheriff's Department says Deputy Michael Schultz had been helping another driver that slid off Interstate 39/90/94 into the ditch on Monday night. Schultz had just returned to his squad car on the shoulder of the freeway when another driver lost control and crashed into the driver's side of the patrol car. The sheriff's office says Schultz's emergency lights were on at the time of the crash.
Deputy Schultz was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, where he was treated and released. The Sheriff's Department says Schultz will remain off work until he is re-evaluated by his personal doctor.
The 19-year-old woman who crashed into the deputy's car was not hurt.
