WI budget battle & jobless benefits

MADISON (WKOW) -- People in Wisconsin who get federal unemployment will see their benefits drop by nearly 11 percent because of the automatic budget cuts.

The state Department of Workforce Development said about 30,000 people will be affected starting the week of April 7th. The reductions will continue at least through September 30th, the end of the federal fiscal year.

As an example, the department said, the maximum weekly payment of $363 will fall to $324.

Eligibility rules remain unchanged. The department says people who receive jobless benefits from the state will not be affected.
