JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- A barn fire in Janesville kills goats housed in the barn and leaves $170,000 in damage. The barn collapsed after starting on fire.
About 55 to 70 goats were killed in the barn. The barn fire started about 9:45 p.m. on Saturday. Rock County deputies, along with fire personnel from Janesville, Edgerton, and the Village of Footville responded to the structure fire.
It happened on the 4800 block of West U.S. Highway 14 in Janesville Township. When fire crews arrived they witnessed the barn fully engulfed. No people were injured during the incident.
Other buildings on the property suffered from heat damage. Traffic on West Highway 14 had to be redirected for over four hours while the fire was extinguished.
The fire caused about $170,000 in damage. The exact cause is under investigation.
