MADISON (WKOW) -- A Wisconsin state lawmaker is proposing a plan that would require food stamp users to eat healthier foods.
The author of the bill, Republican Rep. Dean Kaufert, said he wants people to spend more of their aid on foods with more nutritional value, and less on things like snacks and chips.
Under Kaufert's proposal, the state Department of Health Services would set up guidelines that require a certain amount of benefits be spent on healthy foods.
Some health experts say such requirements are unfair and probably wouldn't work.
