Legislative review of WI budget starts today

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Legislature's budget-writing committee is scheduled to begin dissecting Governor Scott Walker's two-year spending proposal with a review of the governor's proposed $343 million income tax cut.

Tuesday's hearing before the Republican-controlled Joint Finance Committee is the first of four in which Walker's recommendations for each state agency will be reviewed with agency heads.

The first hearing includes the Department of Revenue, the Department of Justice and the Department of Workforce Development.

The hearings are scheduled to continue into next week before the committee holds four public hearings across the state to gather input on Walker's plan. After that, the committee will then begin taking votes on changes to his budget.
