Milton Police Dept. opens lobby to Craigslist transactions - WKOW 27: Madison, WI Breaking News, Weather and Sports

MILTON (WKOW) -- The City of Milton Police Department has decided to open their lobby as a public location for people to do Craigslist transactions. According to a news release from the agency, it's a practice that's become increasingly popular nationwide.

Police say there was attempted armed robbery in Janesville, involving a Craigslist transaction, on Tuesday. That incident made them decide to immediately start the service.

Police say Craigslist and similar monetary transactions can be unpredictable and at times, unsafe situations. Staff will not assist with the transactions, but the lobby will provide a safe location to meet. The space will be open during normal business hours.

To be certain that the lobby is open for use, police are asking people to make a courtesy call to the agency prior to scheduling a transaction. The main office can be reached at 868-6910, and normal business hours are, generally, Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 4:00pm.
