WAUSAU (WKOW) – The Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin says it received a $1 million dollar donation.
The donation is the single, largest unrestricted gift the foundation has received in its history. The $1 million donation was given by the estate of Nils Folke Becker and Jean Becker.
According to the Wisconsin Public Radio News, foundation executive director Jean Tehan says the money can be spent on a variety of community projects because the gift is unrestricted.
The foundation has funded a number of big projects in the Wausau area, including development of a downtown city square, a grandstand at Marathon Park and improvements to the kayak and canoe course in the downtown area.
