Washington wants more info on flawed Milwaukee sting

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- Lawmakers in Washington are demanding that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives release information about a flawed undercover sting by next week.

A Journal Sentinel investigation found that the Milwaukee storefront sting didn't go as planned. The fake store was robbed. Agents' guns and nearly $40,000 in merchandise were stolen. The Sentinel also found that a sensitive ATF operations plan was left behind.

Wisconsin Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, chairmen of the House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations is among the members of Congress who signed the letter.

It compares the Milwaukee sting operation to a botched federal gun-tracking investigation in Arizona called Operation Fast and Furious.
