FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- The suspected robber of a gas station in Fitchburg is behind bars, and police say they think he may be responsible for other crimes in the city.
Police arrested 30-year-old Charles Blissett of Bismarck, North Dakota. Officers say Blissett has been staying in the Fitchburg area the last several months.
Investigators say Blissett robbed the Speedway on Fish Hatchery Rd. around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday. They say he demanded money from the clerk, but the clerk was unable to open the register. Police say Blissett then beat the clerk. When he realized he wasn't going to get any money, officers say Blissett grabbed cigarettes and fled from the store.
He was later arrested in the 1800 block of Greenway Cross.
Police say they believe Blissett is also responsible for the robbery of the Stop & Go gas station in Fitchburg on April 7. They're also looking into whether Blissett is behind the robbery of the Papa Murphy's on April 6, as well as other robberies in the area.
Blissett was booked into the Dane County Jail on tentative charges of robbery and battery. Police say additional charges may be possible.
