AURORA, ILLINOIS (WKOW) -- An Illinois teenager is accused of trying to join a terrorist group in Syria, but his father says he doesn't believe his son would ever do anything violent.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Ahmad Tounisi says his 18-year-old son, Abdella Ahmad Tounisi, had talked about going to Tunisia, Egypt and Syria, but the trip was to help oppressed people there. The elder Tounisi says he doesn't think his son would ever do what the federal authorities claim.
The teenager was arrested Friday night as he tried to board a flight from Chicago's O'Hare Airport to Turkey. He was taken into custody in an Internet sting after being in communication with a fake website set up by the FBI.
Tounisi will appear in court Tuesday.
