Police find "bottle bomb" in Platteville mailbox

PLATTEVILLE (WKOW) -- Police are looking for the person who put a small explosive inside a mailbox in Platteville.

Officers say a delivery person noticed the bomb in a mailbox near the intersection of Union Street and Perry Drive.

Police say the device had already exploded.

Authorities classified the explosive as a "bottle bomb," which usually consist of chemicals that cause an explosion when they react. Authorities say since the chemicals are caustic, they can harm people who come into contact with them.

No one was hurt.

Anyone with information should call the Platteville Police Department at 608-348-2313.
