WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- The US Senate approved a bill Monday which could bring an end to tax-free shopping for many online shoppers.
The Marketplace Fairness Act requires retailers to collect a sales tax on items for the state where they're sending the purchase.
The bill now has to pass the GOP-led House in order to become law. It may face opposition from lawmakers who view it as a tax increase.
Under current law, online shoppers can make purchases mostly tax-free from E-commerce web sites.
