WAUNAKEE (WKOW) --8:45 p.m. update: The Dane County Sheriff's Department says a 59-year-old man was killed in a two-car crash at the intersection of Highways 19 and 113.
Deputies say a car driven by a 64-year-old woman from Madison was stopped at a stop sign and was preparing to head southbound on Highway 113. She then pulled out in front of a northbound car driven by a 59-year-old man from Spring Green.
Authorities say the man was not wearing his seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman was wearing her seatbelt. She was taken by MedFlight to UW Hospital with unknown injuries.
The names of the victims have not been released.
Video from the scene shows that one of the cars caught fire after the crash.
WAUNAKEE (WKOW) -- 6:30 p.m. update: A Waunakee EMS official on scene tells 27 News that one person has died after a two-car crash.
We're told that MedFlight was called out to the scene and two people were taken to the hospital, but one of them passed away. The Dane County Sheriff's Department confirms the County Medical Examiner has been called out to the scene.
Names of the victims have not been released.
The crash happened on the connector from Highway 19 to Highway 113 outside of Waunakee around 5 p.m.
Authorities say one of the cars was fully engulfed in flames when emergency responders got to the scene.
WAUNAKEE (WKOW) -- 5:45 p.m. update: Authorities now say the westbound lanes of Highway 19 are closed at Highway 113 outside of Waunakee.
Officials say the crash happened on the connector from Hwy. 19 to Hwy. 113.
Here are directions from the DOT about an alternate route around the crash: Westbound traffic will go south on WIS 113 to Arboretum Drive, west on Arboretum Drive to Moravian Valley Road, north on Moravian Valley Road to Frank Street, west on Frank Street to Raemisch Road, north on Raemisch Road back to WIS 19.
