WI to remove some species from endangered list

MADISON (WKOW) -- The state Department of Natural Resources board has proposed to make some changes to Wisconsin's endangered species list.

DNR plans to remove seven animals and eight plants from the list, including the barn owl, Blanding's turtle, and Butler's garter snake.  They want to add eight new animals to the list such as the black tern, Kirtland's warbler, and the upland sandpiper.

The proposal was put together after a 20-month review of the list species' status.  DNR officials note all actions the agency approves on public or private land require screening for endangered species and shrinking the list will reduce the regulatory impact on businesses and save money.

The Natural Resources Board will vote on the plan on May 22 in Madison.
