MADISON (WKOW) -- The Joint Finance Committee voted to slash funding for the UW System in the upcoming state budget.
The bill eliminates a $181 million spending increase and cuts another $2.5 million. It also freezes tuition for two years at all UW System schools.
A UW System spokesman says they are evaluating to see how to deal with the cutback.
Republican Sen. Alberta Darling also called for UW System President Kevin Reilly to be fired.
The change in funding comes after an audit showed the UW System has a $650 million surplus.
