MAUSTON (WKOW) -- Juneau County's district attorney says there's no evidence the victim of a homicide in Mauston had a prior relationship with suspected killer Cody Truel.
The Associated Press reported Tuesday Truel was the ex-boyfriend of victim Gail Howland, attributing the information to Juneau County prosecutors.
"That's completely unfounded," district attorney Michael Solovy tells 27 News.
A criminal complaint against Truel states Truel's former girlfriend, Jayme Edgerton helped identify him as the man who fired shots outside a Mauston bar May 31.
Authorities say the 29-year old Howland died as a result of three gunshot wounds, and 23-year old Ebony Lasher was wounded. Lasher is listed in critical condition at UW Hospital.
Truel, a Master Sergeant in the Wisconsin Air National Guard, is jailed, with bail set at $2 million.
Authorities have declined comment on what motivated the crimes.
