$500,000 bail posted for serial sex assault suspect

MADISON (WKOW) -- Authorities say a serial, sex assault suspect's mother posted $500,000 bail to free her son, who faces a court appearance Monday.

Dane County court records show Sonia Stowe of Elm Grove put up the half-a-million-dollars bail to have 28-year old Brian Stowe released from the Dane County jail.

According to search warrant affidavits, authorities say Stowe sexually assaulted as many as nine women.

The documents state the women appeared in computer videos and images seized in a search of Stowe's downtown Madison apartment.

Records also state "...the females shown...appear to be passed out or soundly sleeping."

Authorities say last October, a 17-year-old girl shared a cab ride in Madison with Stowe, went to his apartment, after accepting a drink from her host, became drowsy, and then was sexually assaulted.

In affidavits, authorities state images of seized computers indicated equipment issued to Stowe by his employer contained more evidence.

Authorities say just before Stowe was arrested last month at his workplace, an officer saw Stowe hand off his lap-top computer to someone else.

Court records state a search warrant for the property was used to get the computer, with a manager obtaining the computer from Stowe and surrendering it to authorities.

A spokesperson for Stowe's employer declined comment to 27 News on Stowe's employment and the circumstances of his arrest, citing the on-going police investigation.

David Wilson has been Stowe's neighbor for three years, and tells 27 News the accusations are stunning.

"He had a cool BMW. Super quiet, normal , nice guy," Wilson says.

"It's crazy to think someone who lives right next to you, could be doing these things," Wilson tells 27 News.

Stowe was jailed until bail was posted on tentative charges of second degree sexual assault of an unconscious victim, and representations or depictions of nudity.

Assistant Dane County district attorney Corey Stephan says Stowe is expected to face formal charges soon.
