MADISON (WKOW) -- A child victim of a collision with a suspected drunk driver continues to make a recovery, but remains in critical condition, according to the child's aunt.

Michelle Melchor tells 27 News 9-year old Bailee Chadwick remains in a medically-induced coma, but has periods of alertness. Melchor says Chadwick has significant internal injuries, but says at least one planned surgery was avoided due to the girl's medical progress.

Authorities say 34-year old Miracle Loyd drove while intoxicated into Chadwick on Vera Court Sunday night. Melchor says Chadwick had just purchased a popsicle from a traveling ice cream vendor's truck, when she went into the road and was hit, and run over.

Loyd remains in the Dane County jail with no court date scheduled.


 MADISON (WKOW) -- A suspected drunk driver arrested in connection with a collision with a 9-year old girl in Madison has a previous intoxicated driving conviction, and hit a pedestrian three years ago.

Authorities say 34-year old Miracle Loyd of Madison is jailed on the tentative charge of causing injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

Family members tell 27 News victim Bailee Chadwick is a patient at UW-Hospital. Authorities said Monday Chadwick was listed in critical, but stable condition.

Eyewitnesses tell 27 News Chadwick went to a traveling ice cream vendor's truck on Vera Court Sunday around 8:30 p.m. to buy a popsicle, and shortly thereafter went into the road and was hit by a SUV.

Madison police spokesperson Joel DeSpain says it does not appear the driver was speeding. The collision remains under investigation.

Court records show Loyd has an operating while intoxicated conviction in Douglas County in 2011.

Records also show a past conviction for Loyd for operating a drug house.

In 2010, court records show Loyd ran over an acquaintance with a car in the Town of Madison, following a dispute between the two women. A criminal complaint against Loyd states she "hit the gas," plowed into the other woman, who flew onto the hood, and then rolled off to avoid being pinned against a structure.

Records show Loyd has numerous other charges in recent years for driving after her driver's license was revoked.

Chadwick's aunt, Michelle Chadwick tells 27 News Bailee Chadwick was visiting her and other family members on Vera Court for a Father's Day barbeque before the collision.

Neighbor Hortence Nguipet says her eleven year old son witnessed the collision and has been left traumatized by it.

"He says he's scared," Nguipet tells 27 News. "He doesn't want to go out anymore."

No court date for Loyd has been scheduled yet.


MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison woman is arrested for drunk driving after hitting a young girl with her car.

Madison police say Miracle L. Loyd, 34, was arrested for Causing Injury by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle and Operating While Revoked. Investigators say she was driving the vehicle that hit a 9-year-old girl Sunday night on Vera Court.

As of Monday morning, police say the girl was still in critical but stable condition at UW Hospital.

Court records, show Loyd has been convicted on a range of charges in Wisconsin, including operating with a controlled substance, operating while revoked, recklessly endangering safety, bail jumping and maintaining a drug trafficking place.


MADISON (WKOW) -- A young girl who was hit by a car Sunday night is expected to make a full recovery, according to police.

Officers say the 9-year-old was hit and run over by a vehicle on Vera Court Sunday around 8:30 p.m. She was taken to UW Hospital and is in critical, but stable condition.

Police say the driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.


MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police say a child was hit and run over by a vehicle on the city's north side.

Officers responded to a call that a 9-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle on Vera Court Sunday around 8:30 p.m.

The child was conscious when she was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Police say the driver did stay at the scene and has been identified.
