MADISON (WKOW) -- A study on the state's economy raises concerns about its long-term health.
The study commissioned by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation says the state relies too heavily on industries on the decline, like paper and printing, as digital media gets bigger.
The Wausau area is one of Wisconsin's paper centers.
The local community development director, Ann Werth, says the industry has spawned other opportunities.
"The paper industry has created a lot of businesses that are spun off of it. So I think that we have thrived by having the paper industry locally in our area."
The report says paper companies are adapting, but they're vulnerable.
It also points out areas of growth like electrical equipment manufacturing and cheese making.
