J.J. Watt golfs for a good cause in Madison

MADISON (WKOW) -- Former Badger football player JJ Watt visited Madison to raise money to help local kids get involved in athletics.

Watt played mini golf Wednesday at Vitense Golfland as part of an event to support his foundation, the Justin J. Watt Foundation, which provides after school opportunities for kids.

Watt received a $60,000 check from Pepsi and Walmart.

He says he'll donate $10,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County.

"I love interacting with the kids. I love being around the kids, because they have so much energy. They have so much passion and they're so excited. For me, it reinforces everything that I'm about. It always reassures me that I'm doing the right thing. It reminds me of why I play this great game," Watt said.

"In today's world, there's been a lot of budget cuts and there's a lot of kids that aren't even getting the opportunity to play sports. And for me the biggest thing is I don't want these kids to fail before they even get a chance to start. So we're trying to give them every opportunity they can to succeed."
