Saying goodbye to Julia Majette

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) --  At least 50 people gathered at the home of Julia Stacey Majette, who was shot and killed June 12, to say goodbye.

Friends and family wrote their last words to Majette, 25, on balloons that would be released at the end of the vigil.

Majette, 25, who friends say worked with assisted living clients, was shot in front of her young children last week.

Madison police say they do not yet have a suspect, but Majette's mother is hoping her daughter's killer will come forward.

"I want whoever killed my baby to turn themselves in. I want Madison police to find the killer because I know there's a killer out there," said Tracey Cherry, Majette's mother. "I want you to turn yourself in because my baby didn't deserve this, especially my three grandkids. They definitely don't deserve being raised without a mother."

Cherry says she wants to hold a vigil for her daughter every year, and hopes everyone remembers her daughter's grin.

Majette's husband, 34-year-old Daunte Vance, was also shot, but he survived. He is cooperating with police as they continue their investigation.
