MADISON (WKOW) – A vigil was held on Madison's Capitol square for a 61-year-old homeless man who was nearly beaten to death Tuesday.
Grace Episcopal Church helped organize the event, in part to bring awareness to the safety of homeless people.
"It's a reminder I think of the vulnerability of homeless people. We think about that in the winter with sub zero temps, but they're completely exposed all year round," said Reverend Jonathan Grieser.
Investigators say the attack happened Tuesday around 2:30 a.m. on N. Pinckney Street. At press time, the victim was still in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police have arrested 31-year-old Justin T. Brooks with the attack. He faces a tentative charge of one count of attempted homicide.
