MADISON (WKOW) -- United Way of Dane County announced a ten-year plan Monday to improve kids' diets.
The plan will focus on creating better access to healthier foods in low income areas and aims to increase the capacity of neighborhoods to support better food options.
More than 30 community leaders worked with United Way to create a seamless vision of how to bring healthier food to kids.
"We want to really make the existing programs that provide food to provide healthier food. That would include the school meal program, existing food pantries and meal sites to make sure that there's healthier food available there," said United Way of Dane County's president and CEO, Leslie Ann Howard.
The plan will also focus on bringing culturally-appropriate healthy food choices to school, summer and childcare programs.
