Rock Co. authorities watching rising rivers


ROCK COUNTY (WKOW) -- Rock County is under a Flood Warning following heavy rains and the potential for more rain this week.

The Rock River is expected to reach minor flood stage throughout the county by Monday, July 1.

The Rock County Sheriff's Office and 911 Communications Center are monitoring the following areas for potential flooding concerns:

  • South Carvers Rock Rd will be closed from East Creek Rd to East Larsen Rd until further notice
  • Turtle Creek – Clinton
  • Sugar River Park – Avon Township

Current water levels on the Rock River are as follows:

  • Rock River at Newville – 4.83 feet (currently below flood levels)
  • Rock River at Lake Koshkonong – 8.69 feet and expected to reach 10.7 feet by next week (minor flooding possible)
  • Rock River at Afton – 8.03 feet and expected to reach 10.1 feet by Sunday (minor flooding possible)
  • Sugar River at Brodhead – Currently experiencing minor flooding at 6.29 feet and expected to reach 7.9 feet by Thursday
  • Turtle Creek at Clinton – Currently flooding at 8.6 feet (Flood stage is 8.0 feet)
  • Turtle Creek at Beloit – 7.46 feet (Flood stage is 9.0 feet)
  • Yahara River at Fulton – 8.34 feet (Flood stage is 10.0 feet)

The Rock County Sheriff's Department is also reminding everyone who sees standing water to remember the saying "Turn Around, Don't Drown."
