Gov. Walker to sign state budget on Sunday

MADISON (WKOW) -- Governor Scott Walker will sign the state budget this weekend.

The governor made the announcement on Wednesday that he will sign the 2013-2015 state budget in Pleasant Prairie on Sunday. He will sign it at Catalyst Exhibits, a company that provides custom and rental exhibition designs

The governor will begin with some remarks at 1:30 p.m. before signing the budget. Walker is expected to announce budget vetoes that day, but spokesman Tom Evenson says some may be released before then

The state legislature passed the $70 billion budget last week. The budget includes a $650 million income tax cut over two years, expands private school vouchers and rejects a federally funded expansion of medicaid.

Interest groups, the University of Wisconsin, Democratic lawmakers and even at least one Republican have asked Walker to veto numerous parts of the budget, including creating a bail bondsmen program and kicking an investigative journalism center off the UW campus.

Governor Walker has said he would consider saving the agreement between the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Center for Investigative Journalism.
