MIDDLETON (WKOW) -- Middleton Mayor Kurt Sonnentag signed a Declaration of Disaster in anticipation of possible flooding in the city.
Middleton's public works director Shawn Stauske says the declaration allows the city to provide sand, sandbags and plastic sheeting to help homeowners protect their properties from flooding.
Anyone interested in building a sandbag levee should call the Public Works Department at 827-1080 to request delivery of materials.
Stauske says Dane County Emergency Management told them Dane County Land and Water Resources is monitoring the Yahara Chain of Lakes for potential flooding. Currently Babcock Dam on Lake Waubesa is fully open and has been all summer. Regulation of lake levels is being evaluated at regular intervals throughout the day.
Several trails, paths and athletic fields in Middleton were temporarily closed due to flooding.
Stauske says people who have property damage due to flooding are encouraged to report
it to the City Building Inspector, who will coordinate
documenting the extent of damage, and report it to the County. You can call 821-8370 to report any damage.
