Pistol shooting fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics Wisconsin

MADISON (WKOW) -- There's a big event coming up this weekend to help support Special Olympics Wisconsin.

The sixth annual Andrea Rose Garcia Memorial Pistol Shoot fundraiser is on Sunday, July 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Deerfield. There is a minimum donation cost of $25 to shoot. All proceeds will be donated to the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Wisconsin.

The fundraiser is held at Deerfield Pistol and Archery Center. There will be special prizes awarded to the top men, women and Special Olympics athlete shooters. There will also be live music, a raffle, a silent auction, and activities for the kids at Deerfield Fireman's Park Pavilion.

Sgt. Mark Horstmann, with the Verona Police Department, started the fundraiser six years ago. For the last four years, the fundraiser has been also held to honor Andrea Garcia, who was killed in a car accident in 2009. Horstmann says her family has been involved in raising funds for Special Olympics for many years.

If you would like more information, you should contact Horstmann at mthoss@charter.net or 608-513-3539.

Horstmann joined us on 27 News at 5 on Monday to talk about the event.
