Step Out Walk fighting diabetes

Diabetes is becoming an epidemic in the U.S. It affects more than 25 million children and adults in our country, that's 8.3 percent, but there are efforts to reverse the trend.

Dr. Ken Felz with Meriter, works closely with diabetes patients, treating about 200 each week. He joined Heidi Brittnacher, of the American Diabetes Association, to appear on Wake Up Wisconsin. They are promoting the upcoming "Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes" here in Madison.

The one mile, 5K walk is set for August 25th at Olin Park. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

It's the signature fundraising event for the ADA. Organizers have set a $95,000 goal this year and with thousands of dollars already collected and more than 150 participants already signed up, they are on their way to achieving that.
