MASON CITY, Iowa (KTTC) -- Police in Mason City have swarmed to the home of a prominent restauranteur, Tom Barlas Sr., after an apparent stabbing. There is no confirmation from police on who was the target of the attack, but a person who may be a suspect was seen taken into custody nearby.
It happened just before 9 p.m. at 2921 First St. Southwest in Mason City. In addition to Mason City police, officers from the Cerro Gordo Sheriff's Department and the Iowa State Patrol are on the scene. A records search shows three people live at the home; Tom Barlas Sr., Kathy S. Barlas, and Thomas G. Barlas Jr.
The Barlas family has a long history of ownership of restaurants in Mason City and Clear Lake, with the two Barlas sons, Tom Jr. and George, currently owning and operating Chop Restaurant and 11 Lounge.
