UPDATE (WKOW) --  A family pastor's comments are shedding light on the death of a 2-year-old boy in Polk County.

Authorities say Isaiah Theis was found dead of heat exposure inside the trunk of a car on his family's property Wednesday night.

Reverend Rick Van Gundy, who had been in contact with Isaiah's family, says the boy had several sets of keys with him when his body was found. Isaiah's father runs an auto repair shop.

Van Gundy says no one looked in the trunk during the search because the car was locked. Once the owner came with a second set of keys, the boy was discovered.

"The fact that we weren't able to open the trunks and find him sooner is the tragedy," says Van Gundy. "The fact that he was able to use the keys is nothing out of the ordinary for Isaiah. He was exceptionally smart and mechanically inclined."

Polk County sheriff's officials have declined to comment on what happened, referring to an open investigation.

DRESSER (WKOW) -- The family pastor says 2-year-old Isaiah Theis had the keys to the car with him when found dead in the trunk.

The Reverend Rick Van Gundy of St. Peter's community Church says he got the information from the family.  He told the Associated Press that Isaiah had several sets of keys with him when he was found dead on Wednesday, July 17th.

Autopsy results show Isaiah most likely died of hyperthermia due to the heat.

Polk County investigators have not yet said how Isaiah got into the trunk.
