BOSCOBEL (WKOW)-- The town of Boscobel was hit with some of the worst flooding on record about five weeks ago. This weekend several residents banded together and organized a flood relief benefit to help hundreds of victims who still haven't returned to their homes.
Officials say close to 600 homes and businesses were affected by the flooding on June 22nd and 23rd. On Saturday, the local chamber of commerce set up games, auctions, and live music at the Boscobel Bowl and Banquet in order to raise money for victims in the community.
The money will go into a fund that will eventually be dispersed to families in need. Organizers have no idea what to expect in terms of money or attendance. They did however, start the morning strong with a $1,000 donation from a random out of town visitor who stopped by the event.
"I think this has made this town appreciate other people and it's not just a one-sided me, me affair. It's about us, not just as a town either, but us as a community. Us as an example of what can happen if people come together and work together," Boscobel Chamber of Commerce President Tom Richter says.
The chamber has also set up a Paypal account online where people can make donations to the relief fund.
