MADISON (WKOW) -- A Wisconsin man has made a documentary and wrote a book about supper clubs in the state after touring many of them.
Supper clubs are known mostly in the Upper Midwest and Wisconsin has its fair share. Ray Faiola has been to many of them, and his dining experiences are chronicled in Wisconsin Supper Clubs: An Old-Fashioned Experience.
Faiola stopped by the WKOW studios Wednesday to talk about what he's experienced. He recently went to Buckhorn Supper Club in Milton, where they do a traditional lobster boil. Some of the other supper clubs that made an impression on him in southern Wisconsin were Liberty Inn and Butterfly Club, both in Beloit, Ding-A-Ling in Hanover and 3 Mile House in Hazel Green. 3 Mile House has turtle on the menu.
Faiola says what makes a supper club different than a regular restaurant is the family atmosphere. Most of the clubs are run by families who live on site or nearby and recipes are handed down from generation to generation.
