Boy dies after falling underneath a brush mower

FENNIMORE (WKOW) -- Shortly before 3:00 p.m. Sunday, a 911 call came into the Grant County Sheriff's office reporting a child had fallen off of a UTV and went underneath a running brush hog (mower).

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and declared nine-year-old Derek Lendosky deceased.

The investigation reveals 39-year-old Steve Lendosky was operating a Polaris Ranger on some property in rural Fennimore and had three children riding on the back.

Lendosky was pulling the brush hog-type mower, which also had a motor running.  The young boy stood up in the back of the Ranger to grab a walnut off a tree when he fell off and went under the mower.

Fennimore EMS and Fire Departments responded to the scene, but Derek died as a result of his injuries.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol at the scene.
