FRENCH ISLAND (WKOW) -- Police have released the names of two young adults killed Tuesday in La Crosse.
18-year-old Dana Shefelbine and 22-year-old Jesse Klukas are dead after what police are calling "an apparent domestic related murder and suicide." Neighbors say the two were dating.
Their deaths happened Tuesday morning around 9:45. Both victims were found dead at the scene. Police are not confirming if a gun was used in the incident, but there are visible bullet holes in the apartment complex's wall.
One bullet hole is in the living room of neighbor Jack Smizek's apartment. He says he was home Tuesday and heard a "bang", but it wasn't until his wife noticed the bullet hole in the wall that he realized what had happened and notified authorities.
"We went out in the hall and checked," Smizek said. "We did see the exit holes from their apartment. We knocked on the door quite loudly, but didn't get any response. That's when I called the police."
After entering the Smizek apartment, the bullet bounced off the ceiling and then a window frame. It eventually stuck in the wall. Smizek says investigators from the state crime lab cut part of that wall out to remove the bullet.
Both autopsies will be done in Madison. Police say they'll be busy until those autopsies are finished.
