MADISON (WKOW) -- The family of an airman killed in Afghanistan honors his memory by helping kids.
Daniel Johnson grew up in Cottage Grove. His brother Will Johnson jokes, "Growing up I always found Daniel pretty annoying." But Will says he formed a bond with his little brother and was extremely proud when he served his country in the Air Force, diffusing bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Daniel was only in Afghanistan a short time when his unit was attacked. An Afghan soldier was critically wounded. Will says, "Dan was the first on the scene and gave him life-saving attention and stayed with him until he was [medically evacuated] out. (He) saved his life."
