PLATTEVILLE (WKOW) -- The Grant County Sheriff's Department was called to a two vehicle crash on Highway 151 just south of Southwest Road in Platteville late Monday morning.
Witnesses reported a car striking a farm tractor, which was pulling a trailer of liquid manure. The southbound lanes of USH 151 were blocked and manure was covering the roadway.
Initial investigation reveals 37-year-old Matthew Bruhn, of Jefferson, had been texting and was speaking to an employee on his cell phone when he looked up and struck the back of the tractor. His rental car received severe front end damage.
The driver of the tractor, Matthew Miller, of Platteville, was shaken up, but refused medical attention. His tractor and manure trailer were removed.
Bruhn was treated at Southwest Hospital in Platteville for a broken finger. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, which played a significant role and most likely saved his life.
Assisting at the scene were Platteville Fire Department and EMS, Wisconsin DNR, University of Platteville Police, Precision Towing, and Guy's Towing.
The Grant County Sheriff's Department would like to thank the members of the Platteville Fire Department for controlling traffic on USH 151. Their rapid response helped reduce the potential for other crashes along a very busy highway.
