MADISON (WKOW) – Good news for couples getting married in Wisconsin as the number of people calling it quits has dropped for the second year in a row.
The annual report by the state Department of Health services show that 30, 940 couples tied the knot in 2012. That number is up from 30,287 last year. However, the numbers are still well below the highest mark which was in 1980 with 41,113 couples getting married.
The increases in marriage in both 2011 and 2012 come after a 30-year decline.
At the same time as marriages increase, divorces are dropping. There were 16,332 divorces in the state last year. There were 303 fewer divorces in 2012 compared with 2011.
