MADISON (WKOW) -- The 2013 Canada goose and mourning dove hunting season is about to open in Wisconsin.
Both seasons begin on September 1.
Department of Natural Resources officials say hunters will follow a more liberal bag limit than the regular Canada goose season because of federal rules to cut down on the growth of local goose populations.
The DNR estimates Wisconsin's goose population is nearly 139,000. Last fall, hunters harvested more than 21,000 geese.
The Canada goose season runs through September 15 and the dove season ends on November 9.
