DNR to take full control of MacKenzie Center

POYNETTE (WKOW) -- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will take over full operation of the MacKenzie Environmental Education Center in Poynette as of Jan. 2, 2014.

The agency had been trying to find a new public-private partnership since earlier this year.

The Wisconsin Wildlife Federation, with which the DNR had partnered for the last seven years, was the only organization to apply. The DNR's review team decided it was not the best option.

The DNR says it will continue educational programs and develop a new outdoor skills center.

It says there are no plans to add a shooting range.
