LA CROSSE (WKOW) -- A man from La Crosse has been sentenced to three years of probation after being convicted of letting his girlfriend deprive his 3-year-old daughter of water. He will serve eight years for violating probation on a separate conviction.
The La Crosse Tribune says 23-year-old Dustin M. Barnes will be sentenced to three additional years in prison if he violates probation.
Prosecutors say the girl lived with Barnes and his girlfriend. Relatives said the girlfriend only allowed the child to have three drinks a day so she wouldn't wet her pants. The child was locked in a room with toys out of reach. She was also forced to stand during time-outs that would sometimes last 90 minutes.
On September 6th, Barnes apologized to the judge. He said he was being selfish.
The girlfriend faces felony child abuse charges.
